Lowell Nesbitt, American (1934 – 1993)
Lowell Nesbitt was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 4th, 1933.
He studied at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, and at the Royal College of Art in London, England. He
is best known for his paintings depicting close-up images of flowers. In
1980, the United States Postal Service issued a set of four stamps
depicting images of Lowell’s floral paintings. He was commissioned by
NASA to create paintings reflecting the space flights of Apollo 9 and
Apollo 13.
