Artist Statement
“What interests me is the ongoing struggle between good and evil, purity and decadence. My images are of strong women, beautiful, but not exploited. Women who are sensual and virtuous; wrestling with the underlying conflict of what life is versus what it should be."

Manuel Nuñez, American (1956 - )
Manuel Nuñez studied at The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He taught at Otis Parsons Institute in Los Angeles, California and at The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He is a member of the California Art Club.
Manuel began his career in art creating illustrations for movie posters and album covers. In 1990, he began to create fine art in his signature style presenting spiritual images of powerful and beautiful women. His art also presents finely detailed religious symbols. His limited edition giclées are created in mixed media using colored pigments and 23-karat gold leaf. Concerning his use of gold leaf he said “The gold itself is a dichotomy. Gold can, at the same time, symbolize decadence or indulgence and the righteous purity shown in Russian icon art. The gold bars that border many of my paintings symbolize the boundaries of the one true path to righteousness. But while I believe that there is only the one path, it is full of life in abundance. Likewise, the thin gold lines that rise upward through the image represent the negative forces that interfere with our receiving messages from heaven, like television static. Ultimately, however, the lines still lead upward to heaven, purifying us and bringing us closer to God.”
